Airport Express
I got an Airport Express yesterday. I almost picked one up when Jennifer and I were at the Apple Store on Saturday, but balked at the price until I looked up other 802.11g routers on Froogle. Good ones all seem to be around the $90-100 price point. And, I told myself, I’d wanted one for a long time anyway.
It took me all day to set it up.
I eventually found this thread, and when I followed its suggestion to scale the connection speed back to 10Mbps, it worked fine. So much for the 54Mbps wonder of 802.11g. I think it doesn’t like the ~100 ft. of cable it has to push through to get to the other router.
Sudden flash of reason: I suppose it could have something to do with the fact that my main Linksys gateway (not directly connected to the Airport Express) only has 10Mbps ports. Hmmm.
Anyway. The Airport Express is pretty cool now that it’s working. It’s a print server, too. I haven’t played with the AirTunes feature yet. I think I’m going to bring in my stereo cabinet and plug it into that.
